We will hold our regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 2nd at the Norris Conference Center located in City Centre near the I-10 West / Sam Houston Tollway interchange. This will be an evening meeting, with John Campbell making a presentation on Safety Systems. Please see the section website for more details and be sure to RSVP while you are there!
Later that same afternoon the ISA Texas Channel Section will hold a Tabletop Exhibition from 3 – 8 pm at the Pasadena Convention Center. Support our sister section if you are in the area!
On any golf course around the world, it is common to hear the word “fore” being shouted at times. Golf etiquette dictates that a golfer should always yell “fore” upon hitting a shot that carries the risk of hitting another golfer. You can expect to hear this exclamation emanating frequently from the grounds of the Kingwood Country Club on Friday, April 11th as we hold our annual Scholarship Golf Tournament. We are still accepting sponsors, teams and volunteers for this fun event, so visit the website now to see how you can get involved!
The Scholarship Golf Tournament, along with the Fall Chili Cook-Off and Expo are the two major fundraising events of your ISA Houston Section each year. I want to take time now to thank all of the sponsors, participants and volunteers who contribute so much to make both of these events a huge success. Because of your involvement we are able to provide financial assistance in the form of scholarships to students from our community as well as offer continuing education opportunities to the local automation community.
Do you know of a worthy student who will be attending or currently attends an accredited technical school, college or university as an undergraduate in the Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 semesters? Your ISA Houston Section has scholarship money to award to successful applicants! The 2014 Scholarship Program Application Form and Guidelines are available on our Section website and the deadline for applications is April 12, 2014. If you have any questions about the criteria just ask one of our board members and we will see that you get the information you need.
The 55th Annual Science Engineering Fair of Houston was held on Thursday, February 20th at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The ISA Houston Section provided judges and awards in support of this premier STEM event for the Greater Houston Metropolitan Area. Look for a report and photographs soon on our website and in this newsletter.
Do you own an iPad (or have access to one)? On March 3rd ISA released _InTech Plus_ for the iPad (versions for other formats are currently in development). It is a free download on the Apple App Store, so give it a try! You can read my review of the app in this issue of ELECTRO _Pneus®_ and on our website.
Are you getting the most out of your ISA membership? I urge you to maximize the value of your membership by attending meetings and getting involved. The Houston Section has so many opportunities that I am confident you will find an area of interest where you can participate. So, why would you want to get involved? Well, I can think of several reasons, including 1) to benefit yourself professionally and/or personally, 2) to benefit your employer, or 3) perhaps you just want to “give back” to the society and/or section which has benefited you. Plus, you meet the nicest people! I invite you to speak with myself or any of the section leaders about this. We sincerely welcome your involvement.
Let us know if you are not receiving our email announcements. Check the section website often (www.houstonisa.org), join our group on LinkedIn and follow us on Twitter ([@HoustonISA](https://twitter.com/houstonisa))!
We continue to work hard to make the ISA Houston Section not only the largest but the best section in ISA! I hope to see you at a meeting or event soon!
