Automation professionals are hearing a lot about the Internet of Things (IoT) lately. IoT implies bringing data from the plant floor to the cloud, performing analytics, and finding new ways to understand what is happening. While much of the focus of IoT has been on high-value equipment, like jet engines or locomotives, there is tremendous value in applying IoT principles to automation systems themselves. This presentation shows how instruments, analyzers, valves, and controls can be treated in an IoT approach to improve process operation, reliability, and quality.
